Declaration of imams against extremism and terrorism


On the 14th of june 2017, the imams of the Austrian Islamic Religious Community (Islamische Glaubensgemeinschaft in Österreich - IGGÖ) set a collective mark against terrorism and extremism. Hundreds of imams gathered in front of the Vienna Islamic Center, the country’s largest mosque, and signed a joint declaration condemning terrorist and extremist acts of violence around the world carried out in the name of Islam. In the declaration read out by Imam Ramazan Demir, the importance of cooperation was emphasized and the fight against extremism, but also against all forms of racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia is regarded as a task for the society as a whole.
